LATEST NEWS: NZ Weekend Goes Flat

The crew put in some serious hours in the shed trying to get the tank, brand new spaceframe for Stu and the new transporter ready for the trip up to one of our favourite meetings; the World 240s in Rotorua.

The decision was made to concentrate on the tank and borrow the Nissan powered spaceframe back from Bevan Humphrey for the weekend, so the crew worked frantically on the tank until 4:30am on Thursday night and then back into it at 8am. The two Ministocks of Jack Miers and Sam Barry, the tank and Dave Tarrant’s old car on loan to 4gb Dan Johnson were loaded into the trailer and trucked up north. Upon arrival work continued until just after 7, and Scotty strapped in for his first heat. After taking a wild ride over the nose of sister Podjursky tank of Ross Ashby, a pump broke and unfortunately a replacement could not be found. A photo of the two tanks tangling did however take up a good part of the back page of Rotorua’s Saturday newspaper.

With a couple of niggling problems fixed on the Tank, Stu’s 390gb spaceframe and Dan’s 4gb car were loaded  up and driven to Kihikihi for the 2009/10 NZ Superstock Champs. With a good practice under his belt on a quickly deteriorating surface, Scott was quickly on the pace making up many places in the opening laps and gaining valuable points. However with 5 laps remaining, the right rear blew out and so did his finishing position.

The tyre was replaced with a brand new one for heat two, and once again Scott was very fast. But with 4 laps to go the right rear let go again, a crushing blow for the entire 8p crew and supporters.

Sitting in 9th place on points, Scott needed a good third heat and also needed a couple of other cars to falter. With the other Palmy cars filling the top three places on points, he was going to have to go it alone.  His luck appeared to be improving when unfortunately 77p Chucky Norris was rolled early in the race, and 22r Bryce Steiner followed soon after. With one more car needing to go, Scott gave 19r Andrew Harvey a good wall ride, but he survived the trip. Spying 6k Kerry Remnant in trouble out wide, Scott nailed him but he also survived the attack! The 8p tank had missed out on the finals by a few points due to the amazing amount of attrition.

With the next two days rained off, the three cars were loaded up and hauled back to Palmy to prepare for the next big week, which includes Scott’s midweek birthday party, preparing the Lions cars and getting the tank dressed in Panther attire.

Also if anyone is interested in some prime advertising space, we have the whole side of the new trailer to cover with sponsors. Contact Scott on 027 442 7196 to own a piece of this moving billboard.
